1. Leadership and Community Service Scholarship(青年領導服務獎)

Objective:

To encourage and award outstanding Chinese American youth in Leadership and in Service

Applicant Qualification:

Presently enrolled Junior or Senior high school students in the Greater Washington area

Selection Criteria:

A. Primary Elements [70%]

  1. Contribution to the Chinese Community in leadership and in service.
  2. Providing leadership and service in school and in general public communities.

B. Secondary Elements [30%]

  1. Outstanding achievements in sports, arts, music and liberal arts.
  2. Outstanding understanding and achievements in Chinese culture.
  3. School class work.

Scholarship Awards:

  1. First Place:            $2,000.00
  2. Second Place:        $1,500.00
  3. Third Place:           $1,000.00

Rules for Applicants to complete the application (Required Documents):

  1. Brief Achievement Descriptions since the ninth grade in a chronological order.
  2. Short Essay on “What Have I Learned in My Leadership and Service Experience”, maximum two double-spaced pages in Chinese or in English.
  3. Letter(s) of Recommendation (minimum one recommendation letter), reflecting the elements listed in the Selection Criteria above.
  4. Latest School Report Card.
  5. Signed Agreement, by the applicant and parents (or guardian), for the Rho Psi Society Award Committee to verify applicant’s application (if needed) and to release his/her essay to the public.
  6. Applicant’s Correspondence: e-mail address, home address and phone number.
  7. Total application package should not exceed six pages (except School Report Card and Recommendation letter). Application package will not be returned.
  8. Application Closing Date: Application package must be post marked on or before  January 31, 2012 and sent to:

  9. Award Announcement: Award winners will receive notification by April 25, 2012. All awardees have to receive his/her award in person.
